A kidney transplant is the most preferred treatment for end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Our nephrologists are part of an excellent transplant team at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. We are involved in every step of your care.

Not everyone is eligible for a kidney transplant. Eligibility is decided by a team of professionals involved in the transplant program. Many appointments and tests are required to determine if kidney transplant is right for you. The pre-transplant evaluation includes a physical exam, complete medical and surgical history, chest x-ray, EKG, echocardiogram, blood typing, GI tract, lung testing and, tissue typing. Other procedures will be requested, as needed. You will also meet with members of the transplant team, including the transplant surgeon, transplant coordinator, social worker, psychologist, and pharmacist.
