Dr. Zhi Mao was born in China, and immigrated with his family to Boulder, Colorado at an early age. After graduating from Boulder High School, Dr. Mao attended the University of Colorado at Boulder. He remains a staunch supporter of the Colorado Buffaloes.
In 2004, Dr. Mao received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, where he subsequently completed his residency in internal medicine. He then completed his fellowship training in nephrology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where he served as chief fellow from 2008 to 2009.
Dr. Mao joined North Texas Kidney Disease Associates in the summer of 2009. Dr. Mao has special interests in acute kidney injury, glomerulonephropathies, hypertension management and end-stage renal disease.
In his free time, Dr. Mao enjoys traveling with his wife, reading about history and playing sports.
