Biography

Dr. Hao Liu was born in Shanghai, China, and spent his formative years in Canada and Japan before his family ultimately settled in Dallas, Texas. He attended high school in Plano and went on to complete his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin. He graduated first in his medical school class at the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio and completed his internal medicine training at the University of North Carolina. He then returned to Dallas for his nephrology fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where he served as Chief Fellow.

After completing both his clinical and research fellowships in 2020, Dr. Liu joined the faculty at UT Southwestern, balancing basic science research with patient care at the Dallas VA. In 2026, he joined North Texas Kidney Disease Associates. His clinical and research interests include chronic kidney disease, glomerular disease, and the intricate relationship between heart and kidney health.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Liu is an avid sports fan and dedicated sneaker enthusiast. As a loyal supporter of Dallas sports teams, he has developed a healthy sense of perspective—and patience—over the years. When not following the highs and lows of Dallas sports, he enjoys spending time with his three children and working on his golf game (which, much like the Cowboys, is always a work in progress).
